Psychodynamic Group Consultation
Consultation is an essential part of psychotherapeutic work because therapy unfolds not only through technique, but through the therapist’s emotional presence, reflection, and capacity to think about complex relational dynamics. In psychodynamic practice, clinicians regularly encounter unconscious processes, transference, countertransference, and moments of uncertainty that can be difficult to fully see alone. Consultation provides a reflective space to deepen case understanding, process emotional responses, and think collaboratively about challenging clinical situations. It also reduces professional isolation and supports the therapist’s ongoing clinical and intellectual development over time.
Who is this for
This consultation group is envisioned as a small, committed cohort of up to six psychodynamic therapists who meet regularly to deepen both clinical thinking and theoretical understanding. The group will combine structured case consultation with psychoanalytic readings, pairing clinical material with relevant texts to support an ongoing dialogue between theory and practice. Members will be expected to attend consistently, participate actively, and periodically present cases in an organized format that emphasizes depth and reflection. Participation fees will support meeting space and shared materials. Beyond case consultation, the group aims to foster an intellectually engaged community grounded in contemporary psychodynamic, relational, and object relations perspectives, while remaining open to evolving over time through themed readings, guest discussants, and other collaborative opportunities.
